Day Three: La Mision to El Rosario!

We woke up at 7:30 am to a beautiful, though foggy morning at La Fonda. Erin and Lionel took the mutts for a walk on the beach while Tristan and I enjoyed the beach breeze from our balcony. We started getting our things together, and freshened up for brunch.

Saturday Brunch at La Fonda is quite an event. The entire front room is filled with all sorts of culinary delights! This particular morning, we enjoyed menudo, albondigas, chile colorado, quesadillas, tamales, chile verde, asada burritos, eggs benedict, banana pancakes with coconut cream, and of course, sponge cake with chocolate syrup and strawberry cream. Delicioso!!

We spent the better part of brunch chatting and dancing with our new friends, Brian and Ana, who were in from Bakersfield, CA. They are a delightful couple and we hope to meet them again soon and share some adventures with them!

We finished up our brunch, said a fond farewell to our new friends, finished packing up the car and were on the road at 1:10 pm heading south towards El Rosario. We gassed up and got more pesos in Ensenada, as well as some snacks, jugo, and refresco. Drove through the Santo Tomas Valley, which was beautiful and green as ever. The military checkpoint, as it always has been with us, was no problemo. We stopped to pick up a couple of bottles of wine at El Palomar, as they always have a large selection of Mexican varieties...specifically Santo Tomas, that we are unable to get anywhere else.

We drove into San Quintin, which is usually our final destination, and it just didn't feel right NOT to stop at our favorite taqueria, Los Poblanos, so we did, and got some tacos and quesadilla para llevar, to go. We continued driving, reaching our next destination at about 6:48 pm. The beautiful and affordable hotel Baja Cactus. For $400 pesos, we sleep in the lap of luxury, only steps from the famous Mama Espinoza's restaurante, where we enjoyed Ajo Shrimp, Langosta a la Plancha, and Hamburguesa con Queso.

As always, Rolle's hospitality was stellar. The family of Mama Espinoza, whom, by the way is 104 years old and still kicking, is gracious beyond comprehension and a tremendous joy to be around. We have eaten here on two other occasions, and were welcomed with a rush of hugs and kisses. Just like family. One of the many reasons I love Baja!!

We have traveled 163 miles today and the snuggly beds feel soooo wonderful!
